The Stagehand Benevolent Association of Local 84
About 9 or 10 years ago a member presented an idea to create a benevolent association for the Local in the spirit of the many policemen’s PBA’s across the country. The feeling was this could be a way for the Local to give something back to its members for all the hard work and dedication they had given over the years.
After many years of research, The Stagehand Benevolent Association was created for Local 84. Our goal is to provide a small death benefit, as well as assistance for members who find themselves in a profoundly distressed situation.
The SBA’s Board of Trustees hired Attorney Doug Knight to prepare and file all the necessary documentation with the appropriate State & Federal Governments. He formulated the Declaration of Trust, by which The SBA would govern itself that contained the parameters outlined and endorsed by the Local 84 membership.
It was decided by the members that until The SBA became stable, that money raised would be used for the member’s death benefits. It is the intention to broaden the scope of assistance in the future and this may lead to The SBA gaining 501(c) (3) status from The IRS, therefore making donations tax deductible.
Goals:
- The 1st year goal for The SBA is to raise $25,000.
- The 5 year goal is to raise $100,000 and the 10 year goal is $200,000.
